PM Assistant Warehouse Manager

 

General Summary:

 

The Assistant Warehouse Manager assists with the oversight of the PM operation and the PM team. They are responsible for the morale and turnover of the workgroup. They are responsible for scheduling staffing and working with the PM supervisor team to manage the flow of operations to prevent overtime and delayed routes. Accountable for delivering exceptional service to all internal and external customers, this role will have ability to develop quick resolutions to challenging scenarios, provide management and oversight of the Supervisors and overall warehouse operations, and collaborate with the Warehouse Manager on long-term strategic plans and short-term action plans to drive continuous improvement. This role requires detailed and open communication with the position equivalent on the AM shift.

 

The Assistant Warehouse Manager works closely with the Warehouse Manager to coordinate and manage safety initiatives, reduce incidents, as well as correctly investigate and respond to incidents.

 

The Assistant Warehouse Manager participates in developing both supervisors and employees for long-term success and team cohesiveness, as well as advancement. Attention to detail is critical and this person will ensure that all processes are maintained and effectively executed. This role will hold staff accountable and administer progressive discipline. This role requires exceptional communication and the ability to communicate with every level of employee at Harbor from Utility crew to Owner. They will be able to balance these requirements while holding the team accountable to increasing productivity and operational throughput. The Assistant manager is responsible for driving production standards and driving the operation to meet and exceed operational KPI’s. They will focus on the fundamentals and assist with continuous improvement (5S, Gemba, other LEAN activities) to eliminate waste and increase efficiency.

 

Responsibilities

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Supervises Warehouse Supervisors- all PM warehouse personnel

 

Essential Job Functions:

  • MBWA-Management by Walking Around-move around and be an inspiring presence to the team
  • Continuous Improvement-LEAN methodology, 5S initiatives, Gemba walks, etc.
  • Effectively manage the use of the WMS and ERP to get the job done completely and correctly
  • Lead by example and build a culture of safety
  • Effectively hire and build the team as well as motivating and developing top performers.
  • Investigate all incidents and injuries and determine root causes-develop and administer incident prevention plans.
  • Accountable for the safe handling and storage of various foods, including cooler and freezer rooms, and allergens, by operating in compliance with HACCP and FSMA regulations.
  • Ensure all company equipment is properly utilized to a full life cycle and is operated safely.
  • Ensure all orders are picked completely and accurately.
  • Drive performance improvement initiatives and improve KPIs as well as control costs and perform to plan.
  • Ensure the implementation and execution of company policies and procedures.
  • Meet all goals in the areas of productivity, safety, budget, errors, damage, and security of company assets.
  • Manage functional employee incentives-advise on changes and/or gaps.
  • Evaluate staffing needs daily, weekly, and seasonally.
  • Evaluate equipment usage and needs regularly, particularly summer/winter. Justify any additional equipment needs or replacement needs.
  • Address any customer concerns effectively and correct root causes of issues.
  • Administer an effective training program for the team. Coach dynamically.
  • Lead audits of pallet and load quality as well as building cleanliness and damage.
  • Administer attendance policy.
  • Understanding of WMS and ERP applications.
  • Manage in compliance with various regulations including Food Safety, HACCP, FSMA, OSHA regulations, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned by manager.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of warehouse production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective processing and distribution of warehouse goods.
  • Knowledge of customer service principles and processes for providing excellent customer service. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
  • Knowledge of governing food regulations including HACCP and FSMA
  • Skilled using a PC and familiar with Microsoft Office products
  • Ability to manage schedule and shift work hours when needed
  • Skilled in leading a team at all levels and organizing company equipment and resources
  • Ability to work well with other employees to foster a respectful and professional work environment

 

Education and Experience:

  • 2 Years management or senior supervisory experience in a large team environment.
  • Experience leading/developing supervisors
  • Food, wholesale, retail and/or grocery distribution experience preferred
  • HACCP and FSMA Experience Desired
  • Some college or advanced business and management study preferred; High School diploma mandatory.
